Exterior Lighting:

Successful lighting of exterior spaces demands the same analytical approach used for interior lighting.  Lighting levels must be carefully determined to meet the needs of the users of the exterior space, and at the same time provide safety and security.  Evolving codes must be considered with regard to glare, light pollution and energy usage.

Over the past 30 years, our company has accumulated the necessary analytical tools and design experience required to successfully light external spaces.  We have software which we use to calculate lighting levels at every point on a path or in an open area as well as maximum to minimum lighting level ratios.  This software also generates a plot displaying these results, and a schedule of the lighting fixtures used.

Over the past ten years, we have developed an expertise in the specialized field of airport lighting systems design.  We have been on engineering teams responsible for the design of nearly 100 airport projects.  These projects include numerous runway and taxiway lighting and lighting controls systems, as well as beacons, wind cones, precision approach path indicators (PAPI’s), and automated weather observation stations (AWOS’).  The following is a partial list of recent exterior lighting projects in which I have been involved.  For a more complete list, see 'Exterior Lighting' in the 'Engineering Downloads' section of this website.

In the 1980’s, we designed the lighting and electrical systems for Western Slope Ford’s facility on Highway 6 & 50 in Grand Junction.
